Desembarco del Granma National Park

This 25,700-hectare-long national park was declared a world environmental reserve by UNESCO. This zone embraces Cuba’s major system of marine terraces and one of the most important ones in the whole world, featuring pavilions and well-preserved steep slopes highly admired for their esthetic value. This is no doubt both a historical and cultural fortune since over 40% of all historical events related to Cuba’s history has taken place in those mountains. These mountains witnessed Fidel Castro’s 82-armed men land from aboard the Granma yacht, after sailing off from Mexico to resume Cuba’s independence war. The province was named after this outstanding development.

Tips

Hasta hace poco la bandera nacional de Turcas y Caicos incluía un iglú porque un fabricante de banderas confundió el símbolo nacional de las islas, que es una montaña de sal, con una casa esquimal, a la que incluso añadió una puerta.
