Baobats Tree

Considered as one of Barbados’ Seven Wonders, some say the Baobab Tree was first brought to the island circa 1738 from Guinea, Africa. Two magnificent trees embracing probably the widest trunks combined in the whole Caribbean Basin grow in Barbados. The biggest of such trees can be seen at the Bridgetown’s Park of Our Queen. To give a ballpark figure of the trunks’ width, suffice it to say that it takes 15 men with their arms straight out to round the tree completely. In a wildlife project put together on July 1997, experts concluded there are seven different species of Baobab Tree and three of them were chanced upon on Madagascar. The other great specie can be found in St. Michael’s Path of the Rabbit Warrens, where a wooden shingle reads: “Boabab Tree.”This noticeable 44,5-feet-wide tree is believed to have come from Guinea circa 1738.Its jar-shaped trunk is ideally set for holding water, a sort of adoption from its native Africa.
