Cuba’s literature counts on its own breeding of 19th-Century romantic poets like Gertrudis Gómez de Avellaneda, José María Heredia, José Jacinto Milanés and Plácido. Two outstanding novelists and writers from the same period are Cirilo Villaverde and Anselmo Suárez Romero.Contemporary writers such as Alejo Carpentier, José Lezama Lima and Guillermo Cabrera Infante need be mentioned. The list of recent novelists and writers feature Miguel Barnet and Leonardo Padura among others.Today’s Cuba poetry embraces a significant number of excellent representatives.Havana’s National Library, Cuba’s biggest of all, stashes some 2,2 million books. There are small-scale libraries both in Havana and on the provinces’ main cities and all municipalities.In Havana’s Museum of Fine Arts, travelers can see collections of classical and modern arts, as well as dregs of former aboriginal civilizations.
