Principales Renglones

The economy of Martinique depends basically on agriculture and tourism. The banana, sugar cane, citrus, spice and tuber crops grow easily due to the great fertility of the soils, especially those soils of the south of the island. They constitute the raw material for the local growing food processing industry, devoted to the production of rum, sugar , and typically Caribbean processed foods These products constitute the main exports of the island. The country also has developed the cement industry and a modest oil refinery. Regarding tourism, it is considered the main economic sector of the country, because the abundant profits that are obtained from it, are used to compensate the difference between the exports and imports, which produces a deficit for the domestic economy. It is enough to say that Martinique is visited by more than 250.000 persons every year.
