Foundation of the city of Sonsonate

El Salvador joins the Real Hearing of the West Indies
1542

1542. El Salvador is added to the Royal Hearing and then to the Captainship Office of Guatemala, along with Chiapas, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica.

Diego de Alvarado founds San Salvador
1525

1525. Diego de Alvarado founds San Salvador in a place known as La Bermuda. Shortly after that in 1528, it’s moved to its current location in the Valley of Hammocks (Valley de las Hamacas)

Pedro de Alvarado begins the conquest of El Salvador
