FENG SHUI IN CARIBEINSIDER

Feng Shui in the Caribbean and The AmericasWe live in a Feng Shui culture. Second half of the 20th century and the 21st so far, are characterized by a “boom” of spirituality, expressed through the rebirth of ancestral believes and practices from thinking schools born and developed in the East, which strongly burst into the West.

Last century witnessed political movements, accompanied by strong social protests that shocked the world, such as Vietnam War and May ‘68 in France. The arrival of 21st century or New Millennium became target of multiple conjectures and fatal predictions, sometimes apocalyptic. Many people believed that the Age of Aquarium would affect mankind’s thinking and moral values. The influence of this Age, they say, is starting to be noticed in aspects such as individual, social, cultural, scientific and technologic development, as well as the globalization process during the 20th century.

The Age of Aquarium was thought to bring about an age of universal brotherhood rooted on the reason, when people would find fair and equitable solutions for social problems, as well as more opportunities for intellectual and spiritual development, because Aquarium is a scientific and intellectual sign and its ruling planet, Uranus, is related to intuition in terms of the irrational beyond the reason, and direct perceptions of the heart; and dominates the technology and energy.

Within the popular culture, this Age or New Age, as it was also named during the 1960s and 1970s, is not only linked the boost of movement, but to the announcement of a future with changes of values and prevalence of spiritual world.

So, the West got influenced by the ideas of Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism, Shintoism, Tantrism, Hinduism, Sen, yoga… born in China, India, Japan…, and practically, in specialized centers from numerous countries and the presence of Buddhist monks in big cities, promoting transcendental meditation, alternative medicine,  holistic, etc., the creation of institutions aimed at the study of these disciplines, particularly in the US, Canada and some regions of Europe; to the appearance of a “mystic tourism” from Europe and America to the sacred cities, temples and monasteries sited in the big spiritual meccas of Asia. On the other hand, these elements have been widely promoted by newspapers, magazines, books, videos, radio, TV, movies, internet… so millions of people have been reached.

This general referential framework boosts Feng Shui discipline, so we could mention the renaissance of Feng Shui Culture all over the world. Its theories, experiences, pieces of advises and specially its practices, illuminate everywhere and are linked to China’s important presence in the international stage, the so-called Asian Giant, which expands its influence around the world, cradle of Chinese philosopher Confucius’ ideas (551-479 B.C.), creator of Confucianism and one of the most influential figures in Chinese history, whose doctrines also reached America and the Caribbean and are presence in Feng Shui.

In America, especially the Caribbean, Asian migration, mostly from China, has played an important role since the 18th century to date. Chinese civilization and culture travelled with it. And Feng Shui was also brought in, present in Asian communities in America and the Caribbean, contributing with its beneficial influence to the improvement of human beings and the natural environment in several sectors of those societies.

These are the main reasons and motivations that inspire the creation of Feng Shui site for the Caribbean and the Americas, www.caribeinsider.com, Directory of the Caribbean and the Americas.
