After the end of World War II, a bunch of young New Yorker artists popped up all of a sudden to rebuild the world of arts. Known as Abstract Expressionism, this movement was the very first to exert influence on foreign artists. In the 1950s, New York City was the world hub of art, and leading the pack were the likes of Jackson Pollock (1912-1956) and Willem de Kooning (1904-1997). These young artists pressed heavily on space and movement and let their instincts do the painting. In each era, artists had wanted to depict their own time. The history of America’s art paints a variable picture of how Americans see themselves. Before the War of Independence in the United States, hundreds of artists traveled to Europe.The 1970s and 1980s witnessed an assortment of styles, forms and techniques. Artists are no longer confined to their studios or even tied up to the creation of objects. An empty gallery could perfectly be an artist’s work or just a drawing etched out in the Western desert. These different artistic classifications bear names of their own: earthly art, conceptual art or scene art. Nonetheless, the huge increase of a group of artists back in the 1980s proved that painting on canvass continues to be a preference among public spectators.
