Visit of Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall to Cuba Concluded

Prince Charles of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall concluded their four-day visit to Cuba, described as historic for being the first of the members of British royalty to the Island, where they completed a broad agenda that strengthened bilateral relations between the two nations.

They were received with State honors by Cuban President Miguel Diaz Canel, who offered them an official dinner and had a conversation in which they exchanged about the positive state of relations, based on cooperation and mutual respect.

The distinguished visitors left Cuba for the Cayman Islands as part of their Caribbean tour, which included Saint Lucia, Grenada, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Saint Kitts and Nevis, Barbados, and will conclude in the Cayman Islands.

During their stay in Havana they had the opportunity to get to know the culture and projects of the country, they toured the Historic Center of the city that in November celebrates 500 years, they exchanged greetings with tourists and residents present in the streets.

They enjoyed a representation of dance groups, as well as Cuban music, tasted various dishes from the island's menu, exchanged with representatives of the private sector and members of the English classic car club, before whom the heir to the British crown got into one of the cars with his wife and drove it to John Lennon Park, where photos were taken next to the statue of the singer.

The British intention to participate in works that lead to the use of renewable energy was palpable when Prince Charles of Wales laid the first stone that initiates the construction of the first of the three solar parks that will be located in the Special Development Zone of Mariel, where projects are carried out that require large investment of capital and international technological resources.

Mariel Solar, a company with 100 percent British capital, has invested approximately 45 million pounds (60 million dollars) for the implementation of these three photovoltaic parks and according to its schedule expect to start generating energy next September, and at full capacity in December.

The Island and the United Kingdom have maintained uninterrupted historical relations since 1902, and in recent years the political talks between the two countries have deepened, with a will to continue strengthening bilateral relations in all areas.

It is worth noting that the United Kingdom represented the sixth largest market for tourists to Cuba during 2018, so tourism managers have the strategy of continuing to strengthen the positioning of the destination, and for this have diversified products designed for marketing in high season.
