Biografía:
Havana, 1929 He is one of the founders of the contemporary dance in Cuba, since the creation of the National Joint of Modern Dance (presently Contemporary Dance) in 1959. He has been dancer, choreographer, promoter and teacher of the first generations of this technique in the country. With his work he created the bases for the development of the current Cuban dance style. He is also a researcher, essayist and critic. He graduated in Laws in the University of Havana. He holds the title Honorary Doctor, given by the Superior Institute of Art. He received the National Prize of Dance (1999). He has the books: Apreciacion de la Danza (1968), Una metodologia para la enseñanza de la danza moderna (1969), Teatralizacion del folklore and other essays (1988), Caliban danzante. Procesos etnoculturales de la danza en Latinoamerica y el Caribe (1993), Coordenadas Danzarias (2000) and Eros Baila (Alejo Carpentier prize of essay 2000).
