Biografía:
Taubate, 1882 His poetic activity kicked off out purely symbolic lyricism. Yet he was among the first poets to ever give a crack at modern poetry in Brazil that eventually laid the groundbreaking foundations of Brazilian Modernism under the watchful eye of Menotti del Picchia. His first work was "A cinca das horas", (1917), followed by "Carnaval" (1919) and "Ritmo disoluto" (1924), the three of them showing off a strong symbolism. Later on, he took on an expressively simpler kind of poetry dealing with everyday life, childhood memories, meditations about life and death and other elements that added romanticism to his poetry. That was the time for such poems as Libertinagem" (1930), and "Estrela da manha" (1936).
