Jorge Matheus de Lima cultivated several genres of poetry, including regional, religious, black and abstract works. He also wrote biographies, essays and children's books. His most important works are "Tempo e eternidade "(together with Murilo Mendes), "A túnica inconsútil", and "Invençào de Orfeu".
