Espirito Santo, 1943 Roberto Carlos began his artistic career in 1958, thanks to the support given by the composer Carlos Imperial. He was the Brazilian king of pop from the 60s to the 90s: first he headed what was called in Brazil “the young guard”. A title that gathered the authors clearly influenced by the western music, and The Beatles in particular. Afterwards, his voice and his romantic themes allowed him to bet for a kind of public which took him to the top of the selling of record around the world. Though the techniques of Roberto Carlos has deserved the applause of the critics and the public, it has been said that his song are too commercials , which caused him the lack of support of the most well-formed and demanding Brazilian music fans, who preferred Maria Bethania , Caetano Veloso, Vinicius de Moraes o Elis Regina, to mention some of the classics.
