Cumaná

A rich historical region famous for its lovely landscapes, this location sports a gully or natural bay outfitted with cutting-edge port facilities and a bustling fishing activity. Its residents are crafty people in working on clay vases and tumblers for chugging mate, a typical regional drink. These craftsmen also make wire dolls wrapped in felt; hand-woven baskets and creels made out of coconut palm leaves and used by both men and women to carry food; working utensils and tools, as well as bread bins, purses and musical instruments. Like any other colonial city, Cumana presents us the famous San Antonio Castle, built in the 17th century; Fort Araya built around the same time, and the Church of Santa Ines for the devotion toward that patron virgin of Cumana. The state of Sucre is widely known in Venezuela for its beaches of crystal-clear waters and clean sands like Arapito, Colorada, Santa Fe among others.
