The islanders sent secret supplies of gunpowder to George Washington during the American War of Independence.
This theater was declared a historic monument in 1977 and it’s widely known as the Cathedral of Sound Arts. Between the 1920s and 1940s, all Spanish and South American companies visiting the island used to debut at the Tapia Theater in San Juan and then to make follow-up presentations at the Yaguez de Mayaguez Theater. This historic theater now acts as a cultural, artistic and educational center.
