La Muralla National Park

Early in the morning in this foggy forest hardly ever visited by tourists, a dozen quetzals chirp along in the surroundings. Up in the treetops, other unusual bird species like wild turkeys and mammals like the three-claw sloth can be seen. Crawling down on the fertile ground, you’ll find some pezotes and wild cats. Start off first thing in the morning and bring your own provisions.

Tips

Until recently, an igloo appeared on the national flag because a flagmaker mistook the islands' national symbol of the heap of salt for an Eskimo home - he thoughtfully added a door.
