The first European settlers on St Lucia arrived in 1605 - they were 67 Englishmen who were forced to land there after missing their way to Guyana.
The Old Ursuline Convent, designed in 1745 and completed in 1750 is located on the site of the earlier convent. It is believed to be the oldest building in the French Quarter and is definitely the only one built during French domination. It is also believed to be the oldest building in the Mississippi Valley.
