Desde principios del presente siglo la calle Atocha fue la arteria comercial más importante de Ponce. A pesar de las modificaciones sufridas por muchas de sus estructuras a través de los años, todavía conserva algunas representativas de la arquitectura tradicional. Muchas otras, desvestidas de posterios remodelaciones, están volviendo a adquirir su vieja personalidad.
