Mexico to increase air coverage with new flights

Mexico will have greater air coverage, with new direct flights from Istanbul, Turkey, through the Turkish Airlines to Mexico City and Cancun, Quintana Roo from next August, reported Miguel Torruco Marques, Secretary of Tourism.

He announced that Sectur takes actions to increase air coverage essential to strengthen the country's tourism.

Speaking at the "Aviation Summit Mexico 2018", organized by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), he stressed that tourism in the country grew more than the economy, 2.9 against 2.0 percent.

He added that it represents today 8.8 of the national GDP, generates 4 million direct jobs and about 6 million indirect, and placed Mexico in sixth place worldwide in attracting international tourists, with 4. 447 000 visitors in 2017. 

He stressed that new markets are being explored, whose tourists generate a high per capita expenditure, such as the Chinese who spends an average of 3,800 euros per person, or the Russian, which spends 2,500 euros.
