José Carlos de Santiago: Honorary Member of the Association of Cuban Bartenders

The elegant 1930 room at the Hotel Nacional de Cuba witnessed the grand finale of the 8th Havana Club National Cocktail Championship, Fabio Delgado in Memoriam on January 12th. Within the awards there was a very special moment.

The National President of the Association of Cuban Bartenders, Rafa Málem, presented the honorary membership of the great family of Cuban bartenders to José Carlos de Santiago, Ambassador of the Ibero-American Academy of Gastronomy and President of the Excelencias Group.

In the words of Málem, De Santiago has donated soul, heart and life to support the Association. "We deliver this membership for all your contributions to the Cuban canteen, please continue to support us."

In another moment he assured that during 20018 the fraternal bond between the Association and José Carlos de Santiago was strengthened, who donated "a small canteen that we place in our social place on a pedestal and explains why we are bartenders and also gave us the copper symbol of the Masonic Grand Lodge that has the phrase that we also made our: Fraternity and Progress "declared the National President of the Association.

It was informed that in the year 2019, joint publishing projects will start, with a quarterly periodicity, dedicating pages to the work of the Cuban canteen.

José Carlos de Santiago appreciated that great honor. "I am very proud to have received this badge and this wonderful card. I already have two things from Cuba that make me feel more Cuban: my identity card and now my identification as a bartender.

During the year 2019, Havana will hold the title of Ibero-American Cocktail Capital, coinciding with its fifth centenary.

With a tradition of almost 100 years, the Cuban canteen has left an undeniable mark on the international consumption of beverages. Cuba has ten classic cocktails that are part of the folder of the IBA (International Association of Bartenders for its acronym in English) and in the bars of the world, the Mojito and the Cuba Libre have been recognized as the best selling and elaborated at the level global.
