1519Foundation of San Cristobal de La Habana on its current location. This is the last of seven villages established by the Spaniards during the conquest initiated by mid 1510. Its first location was on the southern coast, but some years later other economic and strategic motivations appeared, and the village was moved up to the northern coast, to a specific location where ships and vessels were docking in all the time. This allowed Spain to spread colonization down to the regions around the Gulf of Mexico. |
