The Rebel Army commanded by Fidel Castro, took over power and set up a revolutionary government. This date is observed as the National Liberation Day.

1956An 82-man expedition led by Fidel Castro and on board yacht Granma, landed in Las Coloradas beach in eastern Cuba. After an initial backlash, the survivors got back together and began the guerrilla warfare in the Sierra Maestra mountain range.

1953The revolutionary movement, made up mostly of youngsters led by Fidel Castro, launched a failed attack on the Moncada Garrison, the most powerful military facility the tyranny had in the former eastern province of Oriente. The Bayamo barracks were also attacked. The regime murdered the attackers and some civilians, and unleashed nationwide repression. This date marks the National Rebelliousness Day.
