Guyana recognized as the world's best ecotourism destination

Guyana was recognized as the world's first ecotourism destination during one of the sessions of the ITB international travel fair in Berlin, Germany.

The best of ecotourism" category was included in the annual "Best of the 100 Best" award in 2019, which is a selection of the top 100 destinations chosen by experts based on their sustainability performance.  

Brian T. Mullis, Director of the Guyana Tourism Authority, after receiving the award said his country is working on the development of new and innovative tourism products that respect the environment as part of the National Green State Development Strategy, and on the incorporation of best practices in sustainable tourism.

The President of the Green Destinations Foundation, Albert Salman, noted that "The jury of the 100 Awards was impressed by the dossier prepared by the Guyana Tourism Authority for the nomination of the Top 100.

Guyana, the only English-speaking South American country with a rich indigenous culture, has daily non-stop flights available from New York, Miami and Toronto and direct routes available from Europe through Caribbean nations.
