France Proposes Collaboration with the Caribbean to Confront the Sargasso

With the avalanche of sargassos affecting beaches in Mexico and other Caribbean areas such as the Dominican Republic, France proposed to contribute to the development of a common project or policy to address this negative impact.

Didier Lopinot, French Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, told the press that they are preparing an international conference in Guadeloupe next October in order to try to develop regional cooperation in order to fight together the threat of the sargasso.

The Gaulish diplomat recalled that in several countries of the Caribbean region experiments and innovations have been carried out on this topic, and it would be useful to interact among all to compare and select the best measures.

In order to counteract the arrival of the sargasso, it is also necessary to raise funds, and make a regional diplomatic effort to deal with this situation, as well as working at a technical and scientific level to understand betterhow the process of these algae works, and how to deal with them, he said.

The purpose of the meeting to be held in October in Guadeloupe will be to bring together the international community to seek joint alternatives; sargasso is a problem that has an economic impact on Caribbean countries that depend on tourism.
