The Caribbean and the countries of the Americas are recognized in the world for being the richest destinations in terms of biodiversity, for the variety of their unique tourist attractions and for being at the forefront in the development of sustainable tourism.World Wildlife Day, instituted on March 3rd by the United Nations, to take a virtual tour of some of them, to enjoy the natural wealth that they treasure and the attractions highly valued by travelers who come to these places every year to spend fabulous vacations.
What better exponents of what wildlife has to offer than the national parks of many nations? They offer fabulous trails birdwatching, hiking through sites rich in flora and fauna, descend the crater of a volcano, feel the freshness of a waterfall and live an inimitable adventure.
A very picturesque place is the Rainforest or El Yunque, in Puerto Rico, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which is home to a unique array of plant and animal species, including the endangered Puerto Rican Parakeet and the small Coquis, and it is rated as one of the best biodiversity refuges in the Caribbean.
Not far behind in terms of numerous charms is Pedernales, a province of the Dominican Republic with great potential, which treasures the Jaragua National Park, which stands out as an area rich in biodiversity and natural resources which offers tourists and visitors the direct exchange with the almost virgin nature.
And following this virtual tour on the World Wildlife Day, we approach the Tortuguero National Park, one of the most visited in Costa Rica, created to protect the flora and fauna of this region and qualified as an exuberant place, paradisiacal, mystical and where stands out the network of wonderful and scenic navigable canals.
If we choose Cuba, there is nothing better than going into the Zapata Peninsula in the province of Matanzas which constitutes one of the most important ecosystems in Cuba and the largest reserve of wetlands in the insular Caribbean, with a fabulous habitat for the flora and fauna, characterized by its high level of endemism.
There is nothing better in Ecuador than the Galapagos Islands, a unique tourist destination that allows you to walk among the mythical giant tortoises, swim with the curious sea lions and explore spectacular volcanic landscapes. This archipelago dazzles visitors with its abundant wildlife. It has one of the highest levels of marine endemism in the world and almost one in four species is unique to the islands.
Among other places of interest is the Masaya Volcano National Park in Nicaragua, where several craters of the volcano can be seen, two extinct craters and one active crater that is always smoking, surrounded by an always gushing smoke, surrounded by an extensive wild territory that preserves its flora and fauna.
After this virtual tour, let's not forget that on this World Wildlife Day we should advocate for the defense of all those living beings that live in the wild to protect them and to be able to continue having those wonders that nature offers us.
