St. Maarten

Agriculture

Sugarcane and livestock are the nation’s two main agricultural products, though croplands are not that much fertile due to lack of rainfalls.

Exportations

Exports comprise over 85 percent of all products, with oil byproducts, rum and salt ahead of the pack.

Importations

Oil is imported from Venezuela and Mexico.

Industry

There are some small industries devoted to the sugar-making industry and cotton. Tourism is bay and large the country’s number-one industry. Authorities have built new hotels and resorts. There’s no single gully or cove without hotels.

Fishing

In the early 1960s, the island nation endured an all-out overhaul of the fishing industry as a result of a tourism boom, an activity that panned out to be one of its major income sources and an exclusive getaway for deep-pocket European anglers.

Main Branches

Fancy hotels and deluxe resorts are the country's number-one income source.

Transport

Traffic is on the right side of the road and there’s ample possibility to rent buses, boats, scooters, bikes and choppers. There’s cab and ferry services to and from St. Barth’s and Anguilla, though transportation to the latter is usually served by plane.
