He studied at the San Luis Gonzaga College under the leadership of Father Billini. He was the first poetic figure of her generation. He managed to deepen in the moodiness of individuals and delved systematically into intimate drama of anguished, abandoned and gloomy characters. He also wrote political poetry. His poem Ololoi is a painful personal testimony of Ulises Heureaux's dictatorship. His prose works dealt with literary critique. His articles and essays are contained in a book called Forgotten Pages and written under different pen names, pieces that he usually handed over to newspapers and periodicals in his country and in Cuba. His intellectual influence in the Dominican literary realm of his time was really relevant.
