Caribbean Festival Celebrations in Santiago de Cuba

The Caribbean Festival or Fire Festival, dedicated to the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, begins its program this Wednesday with a gala in the main hall of the Theater Heredia, Santiago de Cuba.

The 39th Edition, which concludes the next day, is attended by delegations from 32 countries, with around 547 members, and the most numerous are those from Mexico and Uruguay.

The Uruguayan delegation has more than 130 artists from various cultural and intellectual manifestations.

Casa del Caribe is the main institution sponsoring the Caribbean Festival or Fire Festival, and according to information provided by its director, Orlando Bergés, the 40th Edition in 2020 will be dedicated to Belize and it will pay tribute to the 4 decades of Siboney Studios of the Recordings and Musical Editions (Egrem).

According to the agenda of this event, the Colloquium The Caribbean that unites us, the Meeting of poets of the Caribbean and the world Jesus Cos Causse will be held, as well as workshops of Popular religiosity, orality, Caribbean Educators, Dance and Cuban percussion, Music and also performing arts and plastic arts.

It will also feature the traditional Serpent Parade, and the Devil’s Burning Ceremony, in La Alameda, on the closing day; meanwhile there will be a tribute to the slave rebellion at Loma del Cararron Monument, in the village of El Cobre and Oda to Yemaya on the beach Juan Gonzalez.

Inaugurated in April 1998, by initiative of the writer and researcher Joel James Figarola, physically disappeared, and other intellectual figures of Santiago de Cuba, the Fire Festival, in addition to cultural event, is a space for ant hegemonic reflection and resistance.
