The AntofagastaPortin Chile works in order to foster the increase of cruisesarrival, starting from the results of last years that place it like an attractive place to arrive.
Irina Salgado,Regional Director of the National Tourism Service (Sernatur), emphasized in a meeting, to enhance the presence of the cruise industry, that the purpose is in correspondence with the increase of this modality in Chile; because at a country level of the arrival of those ships increased by 22 per cent in the past three years, and by 13 per cent in the current season.
The Antofagasta Port Company organized the meeting with specialists from the PuertosdelCono Sur Corporationand Destination Management Chile to address and analyze the challenges and opportunities in this leisure activity.
León Cohen, Chairman of the Board of DirectorsofAntofagastaPort has explained that among the objectives is prominent thediversification of the productive matrix of the area, throughthe entry of cruises, for which they improve the infrastructure in order to receive such boats.
In this way they will guarantee the satisfaction of the needs of passengers and crew, under high security standards, and at the same time they will reach a great economic benefit for the region by the arrival of tourists.
