Bonaire car license plates carry the slogan A Diver's Paradise - and divers say it's true.
In response to an increase in access fees for foreigners ordered by Yucatan government, the Mexican Association of Travel Agencies (AMAV) of Quintana Roo confirmed that since last Monday, the 70 partner agencies stop selling tours to Chichen Itza.
Although they do not expect the boycott will last until 2019, it will be at least valid during the week or within 15 days and the objective is to achieve a negotiation with the state government, according to statements by Sergio Gonzalez Rubiera, president of AMAV, Quintana Roo.
Yucatan's government reported that from February 1 the entrance ticket for foreign tourists will go from 242 pesos (US$ 12.6) to 480 Mexican pesos (US$ 25).
Despite the increase, tour operators will be able to access the first value until January 31 and those tickets will be valid until April this year. This measure - among other things - is aimed at the advance sale of packages.
