Theater in America went into full swing back in the 1920s with such playwrights as O'Neill, C. Odets, R. Sherwood, G. S. Kaufman, J. Barth, D. Barthleme, Tennessee Williams, Sam Sephard, Edward Alby and Arthur Miller.New York City’s Broadway Avenue embraces over 80 theaters, and even though the number of top-quality productions is in decline, well-known plays like Cats and Les Miserables are still onstage. Later on, some of these plays are adapted and presented in European capitals.
