The perfect design of its streets, its neoclassic buildings, the parks, the walks, and the long sea wall, which separates it from the sea, give a special elegance to this urban area founded by the French just in 1819. Cienfuegos guarded since the 18th century by the Jagua Castle lies on the Rivera of a wide harbor. It will make you feel the pleasant impression of being in one of the most elegant cities in Cuba. Jose Marti Park, of great beauty so as the surrounding parks, is the center of the city. A beautiful walk, called the Prado like the one in Havana, leads you from the center of the city to the sea wall and finally to Punta Gorda where stands the Jagua Hotel and the Palace of Valle one of the most beautiful buildings in Cuba mixture architectural styles. Cienfuegos is also a good spot to take a nature bath. The most advisable is to begin by the Botanic Garden or a yacht sail along the huge harbor to the sight of the fortress that protects it amidst a green landscape on the picturesque fishermen town known as Porche. If your irremediable hobby is the sea, the beaches of this area are very quiet. Cienfuegos has a good hotel infra structure, fishing spots and the possibility to practice a number of water sports. The Dominican Republic has one of the world's largest reserves of amber - petrified sap from trees that grew there 50 million years ago. The largest piece of amber found there weighed 21 pounds (9.5 kg).
