Villa Hermosa

The humble capital of the state of Tabasco is located by the Grijalva River. It was founded back in 1598 under the name of San Juan Bautista de Villahermosa. This beautiful colonial town full of maze-like streets counts on museums and temples that will take you back through centuries of history into such major relics as the Olmeca culture and the Mayan civilization. The Anthropological Museum "Carlos Pellicer" and the Museum of the Sale -an excellent spot to buy gorgeous handicraft- are just two cases in point. Its galleries display the finest works of local and national art, and you could even walk all the way down to the Arms Plaza (Plaza de Armas) with a great view of the Grijalva River dotted by small boats and dingy ferrying people on both sides of the city. Villahermosa is one of the most beautiful and modern cities on southeastern Mexico, reachable by air or by sea. Nothing gets in your way. You'll be a part of the Fair of Tabasco, a significant event that takes place in early April and that for over 100 years has been the state's major annual celebration since it summons its 17 municipalities into one grandeur exhibit of stock breeding, crops, craftsmanship and gourmet skills. Cultural and sports events are held and live music blares out as ceremonial vessels and cars parade. A contest of zapateado tabaqueño, the traditional dance, is held alongside other theatricals. The election of Tabasco's Most Beautiful Flower is bestowed upon the prettiest woman in the contest. Today, this fair takes place in Tabasco Park, the country's most modern and largest park of its kind. A walk down the streets will lead you to some magnificent locations when you'll taste the filetes tulipanes (tulip fillets) cooked in a restaurant names after this delicious dish. If you like Brazilian cuisine, we invite you to swing by Rodizio Do. You'll be blessed with the marvels of nature, and at the same time you could stay in luxurious hotels where a professional top-rated service is the name of the game. In its restaurants you could quench your whetted appetite with an assortment of dishes from both local and international cuisine.
