Political developments in St. Vincent and the Grenadines

1989-1996Three major events occur in the course of these years. In 1989, Venezuela takes diplomatic relations up a notch and appoints a permanent ambassador to the country. In 1995, three persons charged with murder are sentenced to die in the gallows, thus breaking a long-ago death-penalty suspension. Amnesty International condemns the action. In 1996, St. Vincent and the Grenadines sign an agreement with the United States to fight back drug trafficking on the signatory nations’ territorial waters.
