George Washington left the American mainland only once - in 1751 to visit his sick brother in Barbados.
The Mount Scenery Volcano is north of Windwardside right on the mountain bearing the same name. This 2,864-footer is penciled in as the Netherlands Antilles’ highest peak above sea level (more than 950 feet high, with a grand total of 1,064 steps for those interested in trekking). The volcano’s last registered eruption occurred in 1636 and since then there’s solidified lava in its crater.
