Colombia

The Colombian music incorporates the African and the Caribbean rhythms, as well as the Cuban salsa and music. The music is part of the religious ceremonies, parties and meetings. The natives used wind and percussion musical instruments. At the arrival of the Spanish, string musical instruments were introduced and the music became more complex. The African music had also a great influence. It was brought by the slaves and it resulted in a great diversity rhythms. All of them were mixed, creating new styles. Among the most famous are salsa, vallenato and cumbia.
