The songs and folkloric dances characterize the different regions of the country which are accompanied by various musical groups .the principal instrument is the guitar. The xylophones are typical instruments from the South. The corrido, a folkloric narrative ballad in rimes of 4 verses that derives from the Spanish romanza is probably Mexico’s major contribution to the folk music and poetry of America. Other dances are the danzon, chachacha, the sandunga, the jarana, and the jarabe tepatio Carlos Chavez was one of the main representatives of the national Mexican music.
