The Mexican literature in Spanish dates from the 16th century and many of the works make use of the theme of the oral tradition of native groups in the country. Among the leader names of colonial writing it is necessary to remember Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz, Juan Ruiz Alarcon, Carlos Zinguenza and Gongora. Among the most outstanding writer of the 20th century we should mention the novelists Mario Azuela, Martin Luis Guzman, Agustin Laanes and Carlos Fuentes. The drama writers Rodolfo Usigli, Salvador Novo, Emilio Carballido and the poets and essay writers Alfonso Reyes, and Octavio Pazlos who was awarded with the Nobel Prize of Literature in 1990.
