French Guiana

Origin

Guayanas es el nombre con que se conoce un extenso territorio de América del Sur, compredido entre el Océano Atlántico y los río Orinoco, Caciqueare, Negro y Amazonas. Esta zona descubierta y explorada por los españoles a principios del siglo XVI, se halla dividida en diversos países: una parte pertenece a Brasil y Venezuela y la otra se conoce como "las tres Guayanas", británica, holandesa y francesa atendiendo a las naciones colonizadoras. Al lograr la independencia de la metrópoli, la Guayana británica y holandesa cambiaron de nombre, mientras que la Guayana Francesa es formalmente desde 1947 un Departamento de Ultramar.

La Constitución fue creada el 28 de Septiembre de 1958 basada en la constitución francesa. Se rige por el sistema legal francés


Government

Departamento de ultramar de la República Francesa desde el año 1947. Está constituido por un jefe de Estado, un prefecto designado por Francia y un parlamento regional. Tmbién existe un Consejo General de 19 miembros y Consejo Regional de 31 integrantes.


General History

French Guyana was discovered in 1500 although the colonization really began in the 17th century, when the Dutch French, Spaniards and British explored them. The territory occupies an area of 90 000 km2 and their coasts include 350 km throughout the Atlantic Ocean. Beyond its coasts you can find the Amazon forest, which is accessible only by river, with numerous channels that offer a dense hydrographic network. The climate is pleasant thanks to its geographical location. The weather changes with the seasons, although the temperature average is 27º C. But you don’t have to worry about the hot weather, the originating winds of the coasts blow constantly in this country. In the months of January and February the country celebrates the carnival, which makes this period a pleasant season of year, so it is recommended to travel near this date. If you love the nature and the animals, French Guyana is one of the territories that have 90% of their territory as tropical forests where 300 species of trees are lodged, there are 1, 190 species of mammals and not less than 720 species of birds. All this may be enjoyed if visitors make a route in an airplane but if they prefer walking, they could see a monkey, a jaguar, or a macao and the first advice is not to be scared but to take the camera and a unique picture.
