Hit by hurricanes
1979

1979 y 1980Two hurricanes hit the island and leave it almost destroyed: 75% of the population homeless: 60% of the agriculture totally wrecked. When the country was slowly coming out of the damage, a second hurricane swirled its way onto the island nation in 1980. In 1995, tropical storm Iris and hurricanes Louis and Marilyn play havoc with Dominique.

Discovery and colonization of Dominique
1493

1493This island nation was just one of the first Caribbean countries to be exploited by Europeans. Christopher Columbus discovered it in 1493 and the French colonized it in 1759. Because of its strategic location, it has been the heart of many a dispute between France and the United Kingdom. Forty years later, the British seized the island and the conflicts between settlers and natives picked up steam again. Eventually, the French gave the colony away to the British.
