French Guiana

General Geography

With a wet and rainny weather, only in the coast, of low ground. The mountain relief from the inner is covered by a tropical jungle. There are small variations of temperature. The dry season from June to November is preceded by torrential rains which increase their intensity in April and May.

It has a surface of 91 000 km2


Geographical Division

It´s integrated by two districts.


Frontiers

It bounds with the Atlantic Ocean by North, with Brasil by Est and South and Surinam by West.


Coast

It only has coast at North, and the ground rises, passing over the central tableland, covered by a dense tropical forest. All the country´s rivers flows into that coast forming wide beaches.


Rivers

There are several rivers in the territory which are born from the mountains and flow into the Atlantic at North. Rivers Maroni, Litani and Lawa represent the border with Surinam by West. Oyapock river at Est represents the border with Brasil.


Lakes

French Guayana is a mainly jungle territory, where large rivers flow, and that´s why there are few lakes.Most known are located in the area Remire - Montjoly and Matoury. These are three: Rorota, Lálloutte and Rémire, and they are linked into each other by the Rorota route.


National Flora

You can find a great diversity of plants and trees, about 2500 varieties in the whole territory of Guyana. The chaleur is the most constant of the humid tropical zones. It posses amazing forests full of plants and fruit trees. Many flowers with different colors can be seen. These forests are the ideal place to consume the nectar of fruits.


National Animal

There is a great diversity of animals and birds. Some native species of this country canb be found. Most of animals live in forests, which represent a particular zone where they can find the food and oxigen needed. More than 2000 species among birds, mammils, reptiles can be seen.
