Excelencias Cuba 2019 Award weighted Rutas y Andares

The summer program Rutas y Andares (Routes and Walks), a cultural tourism option that each year the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana, added to its portfolio the Excelencias Cuba 2019 Award, in recognition of the work he does to enable his thousands of participants scrutinize patrimonial details of the Cuban capital, through an on-site approach to their history, traditions, myths and legends.

Rutas y Andares has also encouraged the participation of many actors, even beyond the borders of the Historical Center, which include prestigious visual artists, intellectuals and valuable writers, and even prominent institutions.

This cultural project offers a space for learning and entertainment designed for the family, through workshops and walks proposes one of the most effective ways to promote in citizens respect and care for the heritage, while confirming the possibility of recreation making more useful use of free time.

The specialists of the Historian Office of the City organize the program each year of Ruta y Andares, taking into account in each stage the Routes that cover various topics, such as visits to ethnographic, pharmacy and historical museums, among others. In 2001 the Historian Office of the City designed the first edition of a public program that would bring the family closer to Cuban historical-cultural heritage treasured in the Historical Center.

The initial idea focused on free visits to museums that took the name of Routes, accepted from the first moment by dozens of people who responded to the call. Thus began Rutas y Andares to discover in family, a project which grew over time, to the point that today there are thousands of groups benefited by this proposal.

To the first visits were added the Andares or specialized tours, modality that enriched this option of cultural tourism, which privileges the interrelationship of guides and families. In addition to opening the doors of Old Havana, Rutas y Andares has connected to each other in an experience that involves everyone the components of the Historical Center.

External and internal audiences interact in an initiative that confirms the idea that the museum, in addition to conserving and researching, it has to communicate from a contemporary conception. Endorsed with the third recognition of the Ibero-American Prize of Education and Museums in 2010,

Rutas y Andares has a interdisciplinary team (socio-cultural researchers, communicators, cultural promoters, museologists, historians, architects and guides) in its different stages of work, from the conception, planning and organization until its implementation and evaluation.

Each edition is a challenge because the institution must appeal to the initiative and talent of its specialists to propose families themes, and above all, to those who are interested in repeat year after year. All that effort and contribution to cultural tourism was weighted by the Excelencias Group when it awarded him the Excellencies Cuba.

This year, when the pandemic affects the normal course of activities, it was decided to extend the reception of nominations of deadline for the Excelencias Awards is February 24th, and postpones until spring the semi-presential delivery of awards.
