Education is compulsory and free for children of 6 years old to 17. There are 4.92 million students in primary schools; 3.32 million in junior high schools and there are 235 public or private universities. Half of the population finished primary education while 33% finished junior high school. The 8% of the students goes to the university as an average. The state is in charge of primary education.
