Jamaica

In the late 1980s almost all children ages 6 to 11 attended elementary school, and almost two thirds of all children between 12 and 18 years old were attending junior and high schools, or prep school. Elementary school attendance is 390,100 students. Junior high schools and prep schools attendance is 164,300 students. The nation’s major higher education institution is the West Indies University (1948) in Kingston. It houses more than 5,000 students and its library stacks way over 450,000 books. Jamaica also features several prep., technical and teachers training schools, as well as technology-oriented schools.
