Agriculture

In its agriculture we find sugarcane, corn, bananas, coffee, beans, cardamom; bovine livestock, sheep, hogs, chicken.


Exportations

Coffee is the main agricultural export. Corn, cotton, banana, sugarcane and fruits are also important.

the country boasts a whopping 2.55% annual poplation growth rate.


Importations

The main products are transportation equipment, machinery, construction tools and materials, petroleum, minerals, paper and cellulose, chemicals and food, beverages and tobacco.


Industry

The most advanced industries are that of sugar, cloths and fabrics, clothing, furniture, chemicals, oil extraction, ore mining, rubber, tourism.

Fishing

Guatemala is recognized as having one of the world’s largest concentrations of sailfish. The Pacific coast offers the best fishing conditions in the world, particularly in the dry season, from October to May.


Main Branches

La economía se basa en la agricultura familiar y corporativa y supone el 25 % del PIB, emplea un 60 % de la mano de obra y proporciona los dos tercios de la exportación. La industria manufacturera está predominantemente en manos privadas y supone el 20 % del PIB y el 12 % de la mano de obra. En los anos 90 la economía comenzó a crecer al favorecer el gobierno la competitividad, el comercio exterior y la inversión. Recursos naturales con que cuenta son: petróleo, níquel, maderas preciosas, pescados, chicle y los productos agrícolas: la caña de azúcar, maíz, plátanos, café, judías, cardamóm, ganado, corderos, cerdos, avicultura


Transport

The bus is the most used and popular means of transportation, for which there are various international bus companies –with good quality and daily services—to go to0 Honduras, El Salvador and Mexico. There are also companies that offer minibus services, especially in Antigua, Panajachel and Guatemala City. You can also rent cars and motorcycles; and taxis are not too expensive, mainly if you can share them with someone else. You have to negotiate the price with the taxi driver because taxis have no taximeter.
