Capital of Anzoátegui state and of the Bolivar municipality. It is located 4 m above sea level and 3 km off the Caribbean Sea coast, on the banks of the Neverí river. It is linked with the rest of the country by excellent highways. It has an international airport. It has formed a conurbation with Puerto La Cruz. It exercises the political-administrative functions and is the seat of government of Anzoátegui state and of various public and ecclesiastical institutions. It has important commercial and tourist activities.
