Located in eastern Cuba, it limits northward with Las Tunas and Holguín provinces, eastward with Santiago de Cuba, to the south with Santiago de Cuba and the Caribbean Sea, and westward with the Caribbean Sea, too. Surface: 8.373 km2. Population: (1989) 781.331 inhabitants.
