It borders to the north with the Atlantic Ocean, to the east with the Holguín province, to the south with Granma and the Guacanayabo Gulf in the Caribbean Basin, and to the west with the Camagüey province. Surface: 6.584 km2. Population: (1989) 485.136 inhabitants.
