Las Tablas

The city of Las Lajas is the capital of the province of Los Santos. Located in a wonderful plain spanning approximately 12 kilometers from the Pacific Coast to the Azuero Peninsula. It's hard to know for sure when the city was founded, yet tradition has it that the founder was Navy Captain Jacinto Barahona on July 19, 1671. This is one of the most important regions as far as farming and livestock breeding are concerned, apart from being the commercial core of the province. The city embraces an area of 698 square kilometers with a population of 24,298 inhabitants. The province is divided into 15 municipalities: La Palma, Santo Domingo, Carate, Cocal, La Laja, Pedregoso, San Jose, Sesteadero, Vallerriquito, among other towns.
