Las Tunas

With the beginning of the exploitation of some tourist facilities in the magnificent littoral of Las Tunas Province, the first on the Cuban East, this territory sum up its charms to the group of tourist attractions in Cuba. In the capital province, of the same name, through the central road that crosses the modest urban area, you should take the deviation that leads to Puerto Padre. A short distance from there, there is the sign that shows the way to the Playa Real de Covarrubias, from its fine and white sand you discover the vast extension of the Atlantic Ocean. All the light of the sea, the intense blue in its going and coming over the remote landscape, is a natural warning: you are on one of the nicest corners of the Cuban geography, with the additional advantage of just being inaugurated as a vacation destination. Places of relevance linked to the Cuban independence wars and the national culture are present everywhere, the Fuerte de la Loma and the buildings constructed to commemorate the poet Juan Cristobal Napoles Fajardo "El Cucalambe", are sample of this. Las Tunas is known as the "Capital of Sculpture" because of the big movement it has in this field of art and the great quantity of sculptures that embellish the city.

Tips

Cojimar, near Havana, was the setting for Ernest Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea. Nearby, the house where he lived is maintained exactly as he left it in 1960.
