Isla Mujeres

Some 500 years ago, a Spaniard named Hernandez de Cordoba landed on a small fishermen village dotted with female statues that honored Ixchel, the goddess of fertility, and he went on to baptize this place as Isla Mujeres (Women's Island). Isla Mujeres is a beautiful place of crystal-clear waters and coral reefs where more than 500 different species of tropical fish can be admired. Snorkeling and scuba diving turn out to be heart-throbbing activities. Its gorgeous beaches will lure you even closer to nature and the wish to protect the environment. Islas Mujeres, Mexico's most coveted northern islands, can be reached by ferry or by boat from Cancun. Featuring precious natural parks as El Garrafón (The Siphon) -the highest peak over the Mexican Caribbean- travelers will find archeological and sightseeing locations worth paying a visit to. You could tour its roads by cab, bus, bike or on foot, and watch as street vendors hawk their merchandise amid an admirable architecture. There are beautiful shopping malls, stores, handicraft shops, museums and intimate restaurants where you'll be kindly waited upon. Isla Mujeres does not only mean sun, beach and sand. Its nightlife if bars and discos is quite brisk, too. On your way back, any hotel you've chosen will make you feel as snug as a bug in a rug.
